WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

GIRLS, WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR PARTNER (BOYFRIEND, BOO, LOVER, HUSBAND etc) CAME TO PICK YOU UP WITH HIS FEMALE FRIEND, YOU GET TO THE CAR AND SHE’S STILL SITTING IN FRONT?

I’ve had it in mind to post this for a while now, too many things on my mind mennn. Seeing as It crossed my mind again just now, i finally decided to.

A very long time ago, someone asked me a similar question, and my reply was “it doesn’t matter jare, front seat or back seat it’s all the same, nor be the same motor” (I was still a child then sha! shallow thinker!). When I saw this picture some weeks back, my response wasn’t the same at all!!! The first thing that came to heart was “Ehn!!!! I will first slap the boyfriend” (No, I’m not violent).

Let me break it down; as kids I and my siblings used to do the “whoever gets to the car first sits in front” thing. And every single time, we’d almost end up fighting. Then my father or mother would come and say “the front seat is for the senior”. Then we’d all fall in line. Over time, I came to realise it wasn’t just about seniority, it was mainly about “RESPECT”.

I applied the same logic here when analysing this issue. It’s all about respect. If my partner comes to pick me up with “his female friend”, and “his female friend” is still in the front seat when I get there;

First, I’ll take it as a very big sign of disrespect. Then again, maybe it skipped his mind.

Secondly, I’ll gladly without saying a word open the front door and wait for “his female friend” to step out and move to the back. One of two things will happen; she’ll either gently step out immediately, or look at my partner first.

Thirdly, if she steps out, fine, if she looks at my partner first, I’ll gladly close the door, go over to the driver’s seat ask the man in question to step out and I’ll kindly take over the wheels. If he doesn’t, I’m sha not entering that car that day!!   O pa ri *in my yoruba accent* (No! I don’t like drama, I’m not a drama queen)

I meannnn like my parents taught me “the senior stays in front”. So, Driver’s seat o, Front passengers’ seat o, all na front.

My point is, it’s less about ‘the seat’ and more about RESPECT.

Girls/Females what would you do in this situation, Men/Males I want your opinions too, Hermaphrodites you aren’t left out either. Let me know what you think in the comment section.

Then again, ladies, what if it was a guy in the front seat?

P.S: After trying several Red velvet cake recipes, I finally got it right today (maybe that’s why i even found the inner strength to post). Anddd i decided to try the “oreo cookies and buttercream icing”!!! While I was baking, voices in my head kept yelling “Ame you’ll get fatter, eventually burst and die”… But who cares??? I’ll start myself on a weight loss diet once I finish the cake. That’s if i don’t find another set of recipes to obsess over.

NIGERIA: FAILURE TO PLAN

fail-to-plan

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail; I’m very sure every one of us has been taunted with this saying at one point or the other in our lives. Personally the quote taunted me most in my university days, where you had to plan reading timetables from the beginning of the semester and when reading time tables failed you’d embark on compulsory all night reading (TDB) “so you’d eventually have good grades”.  In any case Benjamin Franklin wasn’t wrong; Planning is everything, I’m sure you would also agree with me from experience that having a single plan is often very risky. Most times, a plan A needs a plan B (which in my case was TDB), and often times a plan C.

In my opinion, Nigeria falls under the planning to fail category. Nigeria today looks to me like a confused nation devoid of planning in the past. And ultimately a country that carries out actions without a plan. The recent drop in crude oil prices and its resultant adverse effect is what prompted this post.

Recently, the joint admission and matriculation board (JAMB) introduced the computer based test (CBT) in its unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME). Further, it was suggested that the paper based test be completely phased out. A series of questions came to mind when I heard of this; “have they put in place the necessary infrastructure to make this happen?” “are all the candidates registering for the exams computer literate?” and ultimately “what measures have been initially put in place to make sure everyone who is to partake in this exams at any time at least has basic knowledge of how to operate a computer?”. Shouldn’t making sure that even the child in a public school has basic computer knowledge be the first point of call? PLANNING!!! I served in a state government-owned school, which wasn’t so below standard, yet they had no computer room/laboratory. All they did was plain theory no practical classes whatsoever.

Over the years (since oil exploration started in the late 1950’s), Nigeria has long solely thrived on revenue from oil. And experts have over time expressed concerns on the nation’s over dependence on revenue from oil, and however advised the government to diversify the economy. Unfortunately the advice was neglected, and today, oil revenue is the backbone of the economy as it generates quite a very large chunk of government revenues. Now that oil prices are beginning to decline drastically, what happens next? Seeing as there were no plans whatsoever to cushion any negative effects that could arise in situations like this. As always, the ripple effects of finding a quick solution to their lack of planning in the first place inevitably fall on the masses.

plan-a

The question remains why on earth wasn’t there a plan B, C or even D in place? Why didn’t the government like those of other oil-producing countries who wouldn’t even be the least bit moved by the fall in prices think to diversify the economy? Didn’t the government anticipate the fact that sooner or later the world would turn to an alternative fuel source or even worse that the oil wells would dry up? Is the government waiting till every single device/machine that utilizes fuels from our oil starts running on batteries or even fuel from sugar cane before they diversify the economy? Why doesn’t the government see the need to invest in other sectors that would generate as much revenue as oil?

Now they are running helter skelter putting austerity measures in place that still doesn’t totally cut down on the wasteful spending of the government. I only hope God gives them the wisdom they need to eventually put in place and carry out the necessary measures to soothe the effects of the drop in oil prices. While they put other plans in place on how to generate revenue from non-oil sources. If not, as always the masses will pay dearly for the government’s mistakes.

#JUSTFORLAUGHS!!!

So, as most of you know, I’m a die hard Barcelona fan!!!! (well, if you didn’t it’s here) And even a bigger Lionel Messi fan (my mother believes I worship him), the only thing I have on my bucket list is meeting him. That said, the bros (Messi) needs a stylist abeg!!!! I don’t seen to understand anymore. I’m sorry Lionel, but my love and respect for you is not blind!!!

Who watched the ballon d’or gala on monday night? Did you see Messi’s glittered “coat” not suit?

My friend rightly described it as a satin suit, looking over at the pictures from the gala, it wasn’t just satin, it was GLITTERED satin!!!! Did they tell Messi he was going to be part of a bridal train??? Abi the rest of the bridal train lost for road???? Last year it was plain red satin that was shining like wrapping paper. What manner of coats are these biko?? On the other hand!!! His wife is officially on my “if I were a boy” list!!!

This is his worst suit yet for me (counting the suede suit in 2012), and he indeed needs a stylist.

Also, am I the only one who has noticed how much lagosians love jumping in and out of buses, so much so that even when the bus is static, they still feel the need to jump and even drag with nobody but themselves. The jumping mentality can’t be taken away from we Lagos bus users sha!

WG0Qv14l

Hello beautiful people, THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!!!!! I’m sha turning up on my bed with my laptop and a few movies to kick-start my weekend. Happy New Year again, I trust you all enjoyed the holidays. Well, it’s back to real life for me, the house is empty again, work has resumed and yes I totally hate that the holidays are over. Good thing about these first few days of the year is how mild Lagos traffic is, I believe most people are still in their villages and most schools are still on break. Ermmm any possibility you guys want to remain in your villages??? I wouldn’t hate Lagos so much if traffic was always like this sha.

To the issue at hand! There’s this popular belief that “what people say or think about you shouldn’t matter to you” in as much as this train of thought is quite right, I believe it shouldn’t just end there. In a message I listened to sometime ago, the preacher made reference to this; he said he ordered a bottle of coke in a restaurant once, and after he was served, he turned the content of the bottle into a glass and asked the waiter to return the bottle. While he was drinking he looked around him and saw that every other person was drinking wine. He then asked the waiter to bring back the bottle. Why? According to him, he had always preached against drinking alcohol, and anyone passing by him would assume he was drinking wine and not coke. First because everyone around was drinking wine and also because when he look at the coke in the glass himself, it looked like something other than coke. He went on to say that he didn’t want to give people around any reason to have anything negative to say concerning him, not that their saying anything would affect his standing with God (how God sees him) which is the only view that matters to him but whether he liked it or not, he had an image to uphold. His analysis made me reason this belief in another light.

Back in school Ada and I asked a friend of ours (a guy) to come with us into the female hostel. He refused and said he had never entered a female hostel (that was his fourth or fifth year in school). We asked why, and he said “quite a lot of people know me, so I wouldn’t want to give them reasons to have anything negative to say”. I didn’t put much thought into what he said then, it all came back when I started this post.

Yes, what people say shouldn’t bother you, but that should only be the case if you’ve not given them reasons to have anything negative to say. Like it or not your image (how people see you) is important and should be protected. Whether we like it or not the so-called “people” we are not supposed to put into consideration when going about our lives, are likely the same “people” who would probably have a say concerning us tomorrow. In putting this into consideration, you should also be careful not to over-burden your pretty head with what people think. Because, no matter how perfect you live your life, some people witches and wizards will always have something negative to say. Also, “people” shouldn’t be the only factor to consider when carrying out actions; there is also a YOU factor to be considered. We just need to find a balance. Bottom line, in not caring about what people say or think about you, you have a responsibility to make sure you don’t give them a reason to have anything negative to say/think.
