Hello beautiful people, THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!!!!! I’m sha turning up on my bed with my laptop and a few movies to kick-start my weekend. Happy New Year again, I trust you all enjoyed the holidays. Well, it’s back to real life for me, the house is empty again, work has resumed and yes I totally hate that the holidays are over. Good thing about these first few days of the year is how mild Lagos traffic is, I believe most people are still in their villages and most schools are still on break. Ermmm any possibility you guys want to remain in your villages??? I wouldn’t hate Lagos so much if traffic was always like this sha.

To the issue at hand! There’s this popular belief that “what people say or think about you shouldn’t matter to you” in as much as this train of thought is quite right, I believe it shouldn’t just end there. In a message I listened to sometime ago, the preacher made reference to this; he said he ordered a bottle of coke in a restaurant once, and after he was served, he turned the content of the bottle into a glass and asked the waiter to return the bottle. While he was drinking he looked around him and saw that every other person was drinking wine. He then asked the waiter to bring back the bottle. Why? According to him, he had always preached against drinking alcohol, and anyone passing by him would assume he was drinking wine and not coke. First because everyone around was drinking wine and also because when he look at the coke in the glass himself, it looked like something other than coke. He went on to say that he didn’t want to give people around any reason to have anything negative to say concerning him, not that their saying anything would affect his standing with God (how God sees him) which is the only view that matters to him but whether he liked it or not, he had an image to uphold. His analysis made me reason this belief in another light.

Back in school Ada and I asked a friend of ours (a guy) to come with us into the female hostel. He refused and said he had never entered a female hostel (that was his fourth or fifth year in school). We asked why, and he said “quite a lot of people know me, so I wouldn’t want to give them reasons to have anything negative to say”. I didn’t put much thought into what he said then, it all came back when I started this post.

Yes, what people say shouldn’t bother you, but that should only be the case if you’ve not given them reasons to have anything negative to say. Like it or not your image (how people see you) is important and should be protected. Whether we like it or not the so-called “people” we are not supposed to put into consideration when going about our lives, are likely the same “people” who would probably have a say concerning us tomorrow. In putting this into consideration, you should also be careful not to over-burden your pretty head with what people think. Because, no matter how perfect you live your life, some people witches and wizards will always have something negative to say. Also, “people” shouldn’t be the only factor to consider when carrying out actions; there is also a YOU factor to be considered. We just need to find a balance. Bottom line, in not caring about what people say or think about you, you have a responsibility to make sure you don’t give them a reason to have anything negative to say/think.
